As many will know, we are situated on the edge of the historic site for the Battle of Bosworth. Saint Martin’s is the nearest Secondary School to the actual battle field where King Richard was killed in 1485. Our school has the honour of not only being involved in the Cortège procession but Eleanor and Jack, our Head Boy and Girl, along with Mr Murphy, will be part of the commemorations in Leicester Cathedral when his bones are reburied.
On March 22nd 2015, our neighbouring village of Dadlington will the first stop for the Funeral Cortège of Richard III. Saint Martin’s students, along with Saint Margaret’s, will form a guard of honour in the village, as the last Plantagenet King of England arrives. We will also be involved in the memorial service and have an exhibition of Battle of Bosworth inspired art work in the village hall. All Saint Martin’s students have been invited and those who attend will need to gather at 11.30-45 on the village green in full school uniform. I will be sending out more information later in the week for those who want to attend this historic event. Comments are closed.
