The Reburial Procession of Richard III & Saint Martin's

Saint Martin’s, being in Stoke Golding and adjacent to Dadlington, was the centre of some hugely significant historical events in the 15th century. The battle of Bosworth did not take place at Bosworth but in the countryside near Stoke Golding and Dadlington. The death of Richard III was just off Fenn Lanes and the crowning of Henry VII was in the grounds the Parish Church in Stoke Golding. As you may know, Richard the Third’s remains were found in 2012, buried under a Leicester car park. His remains are going to be formally buried in Leicester Cathedral in March, however, there is also going to be a funeral procession for the site of his death and a commemorative service in Dadlington. Saint Martin’s Students will be lining part of the route as the coffin of Richard III processes past on Sunday March 22nd. This is a huge privilege and remarkably historical event: the burial of the last Plantagenet King of England. More details will follow as we get nearer the event. Our Head Boy and Head Girl, Eleanor and Jack, will also be accompanying Mr Murphy to the actual internment in the cathedral later in that week.
