The course is the OCR Level 1 / 2 Cambridge National in Health & Social Care.

Our curriculum at Saint Martins is founded upon the belief that all pupils should learn the ‘best that is thought and said’ The Health & Social care curriculum is designed to enable all students to learn these ideas, taught through the expertise of a subject specific teacher. Our mission is to transfer the love and knowledge of the subject through to the students.

The qualification will help students to develop skills such as

  • Apply knowledge and understanding.
  • Analyse and evaluate knowledge, understanding and performance.
  • Demonstrate and apply skills and processes relevant to the subject area.
  • Valuable communication skills
  • Transferable skills such as planning, evaluation, presentation, delivery and research skills

 

All these skills will help the students to progress onto further study. This may be A level in subjects such as Psychology, biology, or sociology. Apprenticeships, T levels or levels 3 vocational qualifications.

The specification has been specifically designed to progress onto Cambridge Technical in Health & Social Care and the following apprenticeships:

  • Adult care worker
  • Allied Health Profession support
  • Health & Social Care
  • Health care assistant
  • Maternity and Paediatric support.

Our aim is to not only for the student to leave with a superb qualification but also to have transferable skills to prepare them for their life and career ahead. To develop a love of learning and enthusiasm for knowledge. To produce work that is comprehensive and wide ranging and be confident in doing this. Also to have pride in themselves and their achievements.

We have a three-year curriculum in Health and Social care. The course is OCR Level 1 / 2 Cambridge National in Health & Social Care. The course aims for students to be able to have an understanding of the rights of individuals and person-centred values and how to apply these skills in the modern workplace. To have vital knowledge and understanding of how to protect individuals through infection prevention, safeguarding and safety and security measures. To have the understanding of growth and development through life stages, an understanding of life events and how to support individuals through them. Also have transferable skills such as planning, evaluation, presentation, delivery and research skills.

The course comprises of the following units.

RO32 – Compulsory unit. Principles of care in health and social care settings.

Studied throughout the three years of the course. This unit is assessed by an examination. The exam is 1hr and 15 mins and has 70 marks. This unit contributes 40% of the overall grade awarded.

RO33 – Compulsory unit. Supporting individuals through life events.

Studied throughout year 9 / 10 of the course. This is a live written assignment contributing 30% of the overall grade awarded. Centre assessed and OCR moderated.

RO34 – Creative and therapeutic activities

OR

RO35 – Health {promotion campaign

Studied throughout year 10/11 of the course. This is a live written assignment contributing 30% of the overall grade awarded. The students will only complete one of either RO34 or RO35. Centre assessed and OCR moderated.
